Pig in the Pines Weekend
August 3rd through 5th
Local hummingbirds are becoming very active.  We had not seen much of the little guys for the last several weeks but now they seem to be a constant presence near the feeder
We had to work longer than planned and arrived at the lake on Friday just in time to see one of the better sunsets of the year.
As the sun dipped below the horizion, cabin lights and fires flickered on all around the lake.  The air grew colder as Fall tagged Summer with a few combinations and I can't be sure, but I think Summer got cut.
The sunset on Saturday had the look of a fight in the sky between Summer and Fall.  I was rooting for summer.
Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum Thymifolia)!  A small infestation was being dealt with in the creek and shoreline near the bar.  It's easy to identify the alien weed by the purple flower, the leaf pairs are opposite each other and the stem is square.  If you see any on your property, get rid of it sooner rather then later.  It can quickly take over, crowding out native species and, worse yet, passer byes  might suspect that you are a closet Minnesoda Vikings fan.  Oh, the horror.
Auggg!  It looks like, while Summer was still standing after the Saturday night fight with Fall, it might have lost this round on points.  Cooler with some color in stressed trees was the order of the day on Sunday.  That and golf.
Return to Knottlane

I really don't want to think it let alone say it, but reality will not be denied.  Summer is drawing to a close.  Sure, we'll have a few days left that will reach for the 80's F, but with them will be days where we struggle to get to 70 F.  Such is the fickle nature of the 5th season.  Fummer, that bitter sweet time when lifts get pulled from the colder-every-day-water, kids get ready for school, the Packers get ready to win another Superbowl and the lake gets noticeably quieter.  Before school opens and that Superbowl thingy, there is the Knott Lane Golf Outing to be held on Sunday, September 2nd this year.  I'll post more on the event and the after party at the Bar later.  Until then, continue your rain dances.  Almost forgot, Pig in the Pines could be summed up in three sentences.  I forgot a camera.  There were ribs.  It rained.
