First August Weekend
August 3rd through 7th
Arriving a bit later than planned. we were greeted by the northwoods with a pleasant Wednesday sunset and un-pleasant mosquito swarms.
Rain!  The lake got over an inch.  The lake level continues to hold onto the late Spring gains.
It was time to fly skis over wakes too.
On Thursday, the air was hot, clouds few and the water calm.  Clearly it was time to fly kneeboards over wakes.
A campfire took the chill out of the air.  Some of the flames were blue.
Thursday's sunset was better than Wednesday's.  The night was a little cooler.  It was as if Summer had briefly lost focus and started to lose it's grip
It took only about and hour to create enough firewood for many deck fires.
Summer regained its resolve on Friday just as the Northeastern corner of the lake lost one dead tree.
There were 5 rib vendors within a short waddle from the parking lot.
Friday was also the day to go to St. Germain to cram pig-sicles into head holes.
Not that we did not try real hard and love every bite.  We rolled back to the lake, funnel cake in hand, just after Da Yoopers took the stage, played a few songs and told a off-color story about a hard-of-hearing genie and a 12 inch bic.
Sorry, 5 AWARD WINNING rib vendors.  It was unclear how many ribs one needed to consume before the Rib King would grant you a noble title (Sir Pork, Duke of Swine, Earl of Wetnap,...) but we did not make it.
Before leaving the lake, a visit and survey of the old boat sunk along the northwest shore of the lake was called for.
BBQ sauce spilled into the sky on Friday night, basting the clouds over the lake with a full flavored color.
I don't think the rocks or deck boards that make up the "superstructure" have changed much from the last time we visited the wreck a few years ago.
The keel has detached from the front of the craft and what appears to be an after-market transom has fallen off the back.
Curious bass cruised around us the entire time.
The sides are still hanging in there.
While checking out cribs on the way, bass peeked at us though logs.
Populations of panfish are exploding on some of the cribs.

Summer is over.  It ended Saturday night.  Don't get me wrong,  we have a few weeks before the pull the lifts, drain the pipes, hang the storms end of Summer but the hot nights, sticky days, 80℉+ lake temperature part of the Summer is done.  So break out the hoodies and the smurf colored swimmers as the 70℉ high temperatures roll in, the nights frost low areas and the lake steams every morning.  Some more rain would be nice too.
