Middle of July Weekend

July 14th through 16th, 2006

Lake Lucerne
Saturday started off hot and got hotter. The sunlight roasted all as it passed through a cloudless sky.

By the evening, enough anecdotal evidence was collected to report that the mosquito count is low. I don't think I was bit by one of them. The biting fly count is up. And they are the big, well fed kind. On Sunday, I had one bite on the back that cracked a rib and punctured a lung. It was about to carry me off to it's lair, when I grabbed a log and smacked it a few times, stunning it. It flew off toward the southern end of the lake. Please keep children and pets indoors for the next few days until a hunting party manages to bag this bug.

The sunset on Saturday was great. Blues, golds, and reds danced on the horizon for about 30 minutes.

The lake continues to drop despite a few passing storms. It is now about 4 inches below the nail and falling. Much of Saturday was spent pulling lifts out further, to deeper water. Rain is needed, and soon.

With the water temperature approaching 80°F and the winds predicted to be lower, much time will be spend in and under the water next week.
