The Last Week in July

July 20th through 30th, 2006

Lake Lucerne
July, the finest month to be up north. The last full week had heat, calm, and much needed rain.
Lake Lucerne
The animals are active. This group of men (and one woman) were using dogs to track and remove a bear. They chased it from Roberts Lake to the east shore of Lucerne and then to parts beyond.
Lake Lucerne
The hummingbirds are also active.

Many mornings, there was a fresh coat of water on the deck. Some of the night rain came gently. Some did not.
Lake Lucerne
The sky during some of the less gentle storms was quite spectacular.
Lake Lucerne
The ski show is in its summer prime. I have MPGs of all the acts and will be posting the entire show by week's end.
Lake Lucerne
The heat pushed us into and under the water for much of the week.
Lake Lucerne
The "cannon ball" dive is much more interesting when viewed under the water.
Lake Lucerne
The fish stayed below the surface of the lake the whole time.

With the resolution turned down, the webcam is now live. Please use it in a responsible manner.
Lake Lucerne
There were several "bar nights" during the week. Most of the participants were of legal drinking age, but now that I see some of the pictures I'm not so sure of that guy on the left.
Lake Lucerne
As bar nights went longer the dice games became more risky due to "exotic" creations dreamed up by the crispy.
Lake Lucerne
All were asleep before the sun came up, but not much before.

The moon grew larger as the days passed. By the end of the week it would have washed out stars near it, if not for the cloudy night sky. All the rain has pushed the lake level up near the nail. A dry August should bring it down a bit by September. We'll be up to measure it again mid month.
