Ice-Out Weekend

Next »

April 2nd through 4th, 2010

On Friday, after some so-so golf, we witnessed the last of the lake ice being beaten up and pushed on shore by a strong southerly wind. The warm air blowing over the cold surface produced some highly localized fog near the shore. As the last of the ice faded away, it was time for one of the last syrup filtering hootenannies to be held on the north end of the lake. Much rain was expected/hoped for on the weekend. After the clouds passed we got maybe a 20th of an inch. The inlet stream in the northeast corner of the lake is dry. The lake really needs rain. Two yards ought to do it. Two (or more?) eagles were circling the north end of the lake all weekend. They were squawking and eyeing each other in either a "Dude, get out of my space" way or a "Hey baby" way. I can't tell and frankly I don't want to know. Many ducks were quacking "Hey baby" on the north end of Lucerne. You Ducks! Get a room!

-Nemo
