Post-Peak Color Weekend

October 10th through 12th, 2008

Lake Lucerne
The sun set just after 6:00 PM on Friday. After a rather upsetting week in the markets, the calm of the northwoods was more welcome than ever. Later on Friday, we went over to Rhinelander to check out The Knight Gallery and Bugsy's. They're still there. Hodag lanes has all the bowling you can eat for $10 from 9:30 PM to midnight. Our fill of bowling took only about two and a half hours.
Lake Lucerne
Many leaves have fallen, but there are many still attached and they are marvelous. Not much red left. There is plenty of yellow, gold, and brown.
Lake Lucerne
Forest floor ferns have seen better days.
Lake Lucerne
Acorns are all over the ground in various states of squirrel food-ness (whole, half eaten, all eaten). I've always wondered how they taste. I understand they are very bitter and need to be boiled to be made edible, but I've never been hungry/curious enough to bite one.
Lake Lucerne
The lake temperature is close to 60°F. The water level has not come up much even with all the rain last week. sigh. Most of the lifts and piers are in. A few fishermen and a loon tooled about the surface looking for fish. We saw a few smaller fish in the shallows, but no bigger ones.
