Winter is Coming Here.

November 24th through 30th, 2025

Last week started off warm (for late November). There was green grass, no lake ice, and talk of golf amongst the men. That changed. This time of year change from warm to cold is inevitable, but what set this year's seasonal transformation apart from a "normal" year was its speed. The lake area went from thoughts of lawn mowing to bundling up and shoveling significant snow in less than a day. Local squirrels were hyper-active before the change. We haven't seen a one since. Winter 2025: Now with more cold and less squirrel. Sign us up! Before the change, there was grass touching, beach cleaning, and campfires. Before autumn left the stage, it gifted Lucerne with almost a half an inch of much needed rain. The rain then turned to snow. Before Thanksgiving there was 3 inches covering the grass. The rain mixed with snow formed a slush that froze resulting in a quarter of an inch of hard ice on untreated roads. Before the weekend was out, there was another 3 inches on the ground. Before the pumpkin pie, before the turkey, before the football (Go! Pack! Go!), it was clear that we had been visited by the first of the Four Horsemen of the Snowpocalypse: Albino Thanksgiving. It was not as bad a visit as 2019, but hats were donned, curses muttered, and shovels deployed. In addition to the white coating on roads, trees, and lawns, ice started to form in the corners of Lucerne. The north eastern sheet has extended over 20 feet. The sheet in the north western corner is still in its infancy. To further document Lucerne's coming ice-in, aLf's time lapse camera was setup. We'll get the video up shortly after the event. Lake Wabikon is for the most part frozen over. Lucerne is not. Wabikon's swans noticed and swam up the north end of the lake all weekend. There were five of 'em. The five swans were not alone. Hundreds of other water fowl were observed enjoying the open water. There's little ice under all the snow covering Knott Lane. Still, for walkers, the peril'ometer is showing far more jeopardy than it did just a few days ago. Last week, the first of the Four Horsemen of the Snowpocalypse came riding in on a frozen butterball spreading snow, cold, and premature Christmas sprit in our faces. Some have no problem with this. Others are concerned about extending winter. Still others want Knottlane's art department to pull out their crayolas and create an anthropomorphic representation of the Four Horsemen of the Snowpocalypse. For those new to the lore, that would be Albino Thanksgiving, ZOMBIE WINTER, Silenced Spring, and January. Formal descriptions and definitions of the four exist, we'll post them just as soon as we dig them up. Before then, time is running out, but there's still some left to enter this year's Ice-In Contest. If you haven't entered yet, do it now!

-Nemo's putting down the shovel and looking for some crayons.
