Last week started off with drier, cooler air. Daytime highs struggled to get into the 60s°F and morning lows fell into the high 30s°F with frost reported in some low areas. That changed around mid-week.

Time and the cold mornings have not been kind to the surviving trillium.

During the dry period and in between the storms later, there was golf. The course has more deer hazards than in years past. They're not as hazardous on the links as they are on Highway 8.

As great a feeling as lying 2 on the green under a yard from the hole is the great frustration felt upon missing that putt. I hate golf.

The past and current rain has kept the water hazards high.

The frogs populating those marshy areas are also quite plentiful.

Last week, storms were forecast during the ski show. They held off a few hours and the second ski show of the year, unlike the first, was not canceled.

A moderate crowd was treated to a good show. The gusty, strong wind that preceded the storm almost kept the drone from the sky, but foolishness overruled forbearance. As luck would have it, no UAVs went for an unscheduled swim.

The return of the wet weather seemed to make some happy.

The squirrels were not among them. They seemed to get more bad-tempered and irritable with every drop.

In addition to the lake level gaining an inch last week, Lucerne also acquired several tiny mergansers.

While taking in some sun and summoning up the courage to get into the 67°F water, we were protected from mosquitoes by one of Lucerne's many damselflies.

Eventually we dove in. It was cold and clear, but mostly cold.

As many frequent visitors to the page may realize, the knottlane webcam is down. We did the normal engineering to bring it back (checking for a high impedance air gap, cycling power to the panel, and even some percussive maintenance), but it turned out to be plugged in, turning it off and on didn't work, nor did hitting it. The normally happy green indicator light on the front was blinking an ominous red. We checked with the interweb and it unhelpfully told us that a red light means that "The camera may be malfunctioning". It went further on to clarify that with "If you cannot access the camera, the camera may be malfunctioning. Call the authorized service center." I've had some experience with authorized service centers. The phrase 'Abandon all hope ye who enter here' comes to mind. With all the rain in the forecast, we'll have the time to get it back next week. It may take more weeks if we call the authorized service center.

It's storming again. The cracking of thunder, popping of GFI outlets, and canceling of tee times are becoming regular summer of 2024 things. It's best to not get bitter and depressed with the damp weather but rather embrace it as a wonderful time to convalesce and gather the strength needed to attack the summer when the rain finally stops and the sky clears. It could also be a good time to practice short putts and void a few warranties that are probably long expired anyway.<br><br><br>-Nemo perfers "Kinetic Disassembly" to "It blew up".
