Memorial Day Weekend
May 26th through 28th
While pulling into the NCC parking, we avoided running over a baby bunny in the middle of the lot.  Not needing a bar bunny, we let it be.
There has been some weather in the northwoods since last weekend.  While driving through Wabeno, we noticed the bandshell, built in the 1940's, will need to be rebuilt in 2012.  Larry the Logroller, just to the right of the blowed over shell, was unharmed.
Before Saturday night, the rain gauge had about a half an inch left from last week's rain.  The 2.5 inches we were hit with on Saturday night pushed the weekly total to just under 3.5 inches (about a half an inch evaporated during the course of the week).
There were storms on Saturday night, the kind of real storms that we have not seen in a while.  There was blinding lightning, foundation rattling thunder and buckets of rain.  Huzzah!
There be water in the creek!  It's not flowing fast, but the ground is saturated.  With the watershed soaked, any more rain in the next week or so will bring the lake up even more than just the rain total on the surface.
We are going to have to put the extended piers up a block.  If this wet trend continues, we can remove the extension altogether in a few weeks!
The lake temperature is going up!.  This is not really surprising for this time of year.  For me, 62 F is the minimum for going into the lake, 72 F is where it becomes comfortable (ish).  Sixty eight is close to comfortable and a week or two early, but it's still pretty cold.
The lake level is going up! Twenty seven  inches below the nail and rising. We could use 5 or 10 more weeks like this last one.
Will the lake level recover soon?  We're over a foot up from the low point, but we have a ways to go.  If the trend holds, and this is a big IF, we'll be back up to the nail in 2 or 3 years.  Many on the south end of the lake could have usable shoreline before that.  We need more rain.  And snow.  Just not snow for the next few months please.

Missed you at bar night on Sunday.  All the Rhinelander shorties were killed (4).

-Nemo kept the bar bunny free.
