Ski Weekend III
January 12th through 14th
Friday wasn't the coldest day of the year, nor the windiest, but it was still pretty chilly and blustery.  Great conditions for throwing oneself down the slopes of Brule.
Many do not think "Let's go downhill skiing!" when the temperature on the hill is around 10℉ and the wind is gusting to 20 mph.  Only two of us were skiing for the first few hours.  Later, a few more skiers showed up.  Seven I think.
On a slightly warmer and overcast Saturday, a hole was punched into the ice.
There was 11 inches of very clear ice between us and a very cold swim.  There is also about 6 inches of snow covering the north end of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding shores.

There's more snow predicted before next weekend's main event, but even if we don't get another flake, six inches is plenty for fort building.  The old fort forms are being augmented to make longer middle walls.  That should make be a better fit with the north/south schema that was adopted some years ago.  Next Saturday, at about 7:00 PM on the north end of the lake, safety goggles will be put to faces and fire to fuses as the Twenty First Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War starts.  Drinks, snacks and first aid will be provided at the bar after the war.  Think about 8:30 PM.  Sooner if the temperature is below 10℉ or we run out of rockets early.
