First Weekend in Fall
September 23rd through 25th
There was evidence of wind and weather observed upon our arrival to the northwoods.
There was also a bit of evidence of Fall.  Color is about 50% and could be close to +80% by next weekend.
Rain!  There was 1.1 inches on the ground by mid-day Saturday.  Just after emptying the rain guage, it started to rain again.
By Sunday we got another 0.2 inches.  As I write this, an additional 1+ inch has fell and more is on the way.  Excellent news for a low lake.
As the lake level is moving up, the lake temperature is moving down.  On Sunday, it was just above 62℉.  You could swim without dying, at least not right away, but all that shivering might scare the fish.
The air was a bit cooler too.  Smoke from a few cabin-warming fires dotted the shoreline.

A tale of two Seasons.

It was the best of times (we were up north!), it was the worst of times (it rained all weekend!), it was the age of wisdom (we added an outlet to the bar!), it was the the age of foolishness (that bit will never be the same after drilling through the wooden floor and bouncing off the rock foundation we did not realize the floor was sitting on!), it was the epoch of belief (all this rain will push the lake level up!), it was the epoch of incredulity (why isn't the lake rising faster?!), it was the season of light (we plugged a lamp into the new outlet!), it was the season of Darkness (the cloud cover all weekend made it seem like the sun rise and set were just minutes apart!), we had everything before us (the lake was flat and ski-able!), we had nothing before us (the ski boat was winterized and put away!), we were all going direct to heaven (we went to church on Sunday!), we were all going direct the other way (I "spoke in tongues" during some unfortunate golf shots (double rat farts!)!) - in short it was the first Fall weekend in northeastern Wisconsin.
