Start of Autumn Weekend
September 20th through 23rd
Thursday evening started out OK, but the clouds thickened and storms rolled in after mid-night.  There was more than a bit of lightning and about an inch of rain.
Friday was hot and thick.  The rain came at around 5:30 PM and continued for a few hours.
Peak color is a subjective thing.  Many told me that they feel that this weekend was peak.  Some argued that peak was still a few days away.
The cold front pushed through by Saturday.  After a cold morning, the temperature rose to near 70 F.  The sky was blue all day.
Peak or not, the colors were fantastic.
It has been awhile since the northwoods have exploded with such a spectacular display.
The lake was unusually clear, even for Lucerne. I spent a little time on the bottom of the 69 F degree water.  The rockbass are on the shallow cribs and they are big.  I'd say about a pound or better.  Many small perch are around with a few bass.  Didn't see any walleye.
Despite a load of rain, the lake remains very low.  It's about 22 inches below the nail.
A wind from the south picked up on Sunday and waves crashed against rocks on the north shore.

I'll be back with a post-peak report next week.
