Lake Level Check Weekend
April 21st & 22nd
Smelt fishing, raft and paddle boats in, and golf were some of the many reasons we came up late Saturday for a very busy 24 hours.  Soon after arrival, sap was boiled "hard" to finish turning it into syrup.  Note the flame coming from the flue just to the right of the top vent.  We canned 10 gallons Sunday. Smelt fishing was a bust on Saturday night.  Lucerne is one of the few inland lakes that has a smelt run (the only one I know of). A strong wind from the south meant large waves smashing into the north end making smelt fishing near impossible.  Better luck next year.
The construction on the north end of the lake seems to be moving along well.  Quite an improvement over cabins 4 & 5.
A paddle boat was used to move the raft into position.  The wind and waves on Sunday made this yearly task difficult.  The people who had to go into the water report it as cold, very cold.
After about 25 minutes, it was put in position for the summer.  No Rafto! was played.
The webcam's "Auto-Patrol" pattern was changed to include an image of the shore to more accurately gauge the rise and fall of the lake level from the web.

The golf course was a little rough, as is to be expected this time of year.  The air temperature on Sunday coupled with the open water felt like summer.  The water temperature reminided us that this is only spring.  Early Spring.  We'll be back. Almost forgot, the lake is -13.5 inches below the nail. We need rain.
