We made it up after dark on Thursday. The moon was bright and the air was not as cool as we have come to expect during this time of year.
Friday morning was warm and cloudless. A breeze from the south grew during the day making the lake rough on the north shore.
The signs of mid-fall are all around. Exploding milkweed pods are among my favorites.
The apple trees on the north shore are full of fruit.
Peak color occured on Friday. Golds, browns, and yellows dominated this year with a sprinkling of red here and there.
This is the latest date we have seen for peak color, but it was worth the wait.
Saturday morning was hazy and a change in the weather could be felt in the air.
The rain that came on Saturday night did not stop the carving. The ceremonial collecting and roasting of the pumpkin seeds was delegated to Krispa.
Adult beverages were dispensed as were "drink monkey" markers.
Drink Monkeycide! We just turned away for a few minutes to carve pumpkins when tragedy struck. The monkey would have survived had the beverage not been "Blatz". Let this be a lesson to you all, buy good beer.
After the carving, the gords were put out on the dock and candles lit. All were impressed by the orange glow but the rain drove us all damply back into the cabin.
Two loons were fishing and making quite a racket on Sunday morning. They dove the north shore for hours.
A small red squirrel was running around like a lunatic, hiding nuts and yelling at me.
We had to go back to work on Sunday, but we didn't have to like it...
