Boats & Lifts Out Weekend
October 3rd & 4th
Saturday morning was crisp and partly cloudy.  If the temperatures of the air and water were 25 degrees warmer it would have been the perfect day to remove the boats and lifts.  It turned out OK though. Injuries that occurred during the de-lifting process did not swell much due to the temperature of the offended extremity.
The loons were of no help at all.  They seemed more interested in lowering the lake's fish population than in pulling the boats and lifts.
The loons were not alone in their desire for fish.  Most think that the phrase "the lake has turned over" refers to the temperature of the surface water verses the deeper water.  I think of it as the ratio of fishermen to skiers.  The weekend had a ratio of about 10  to 1 (10 fishermen to 1 skier that chickened out).
The fall colors have still not peaked.  Next week for sure.
It took a few hours and caused  a few bruises and sore muscles but the lifts are out.  They seem more reluctant to leave the water with every passing year.
The lift removing festival was followed by the "relax and just float away" ritual.  Just under an hour later the floatee was judged to be a navigational hazard and was unwillingly pulled from the lake.

With the tasks finished and the sun setting we had to leave.  Next weekend is "Pumpkin Carving" and we'll be back up to gouge some gourds and record peak fall colors.
