Golf, Boats, and Cold Lake Water

June 5th through 14th, 1992

The lake is going up. The water level had gotten pretty low over the past few years, but the wet winter and spring has pushed the lake up to more normal levels. All that water is unusually clear even for our pristine lake. Some of the rocks you see here are under 10 feet or more of beautiful Lake Lucerne. It's that time of year. Traditionally, many put in boats on Memoral Day. We chose to put ours in the week after for three reasons...

1) It's less crowded at the public landing.
2) The lake is a bit warmer.
3) We could not get off work on Memorial Day Weekend. The lake is a bit warmer, but not warm. We did not have a thermometer in the lake, but judging from the frequency and duration of screams from swimmers, we'd say the water temperature was about 62 F. A B-52 made a low pass over the lake on Wednesday on its way to bomb Hiles. We hear that Hiles has a sort of zoo (A bear in a cage and a gas station that has snacks. There might be a dog too.) If the B-52 misses, we'll have to visit there some day. There are several resorts on Lake Lucerne. One is Rustic Haven. They have a nice sign. The Nicolet Country Club is open. There are tiny trees everywhere. The small trees between one and two are not much of a hazzard today. If given a few decades though, they could be a major pain in the par for anyone that pulls a drive on one or pushes a drive on two. It's been a wet Spring, but this week was rain free. The water went from the low 60s to the low 70s by week's end. Swimmers, divers and skiers came out of the lake with only a hint of a bluish hue by the time we had to leave. The air temperature has been in the upper 70s all week. A better start to the Summer we can not imagine. We'll be back in a week.

-Nemo, pinking up nicely but still showing a bit of blue.
