Dive #3

Dive 4 »

August 30, 2003

The dive started at the 40 foot mark on the east shore across from the "Water's Edge" bar and restaurant. My dive partner had some sinus problems at 10 feet. After a short mime performance, it was agreed that I would go to the bottom, take some pictures and return. The bottom held no real surprises. It was cold (45°F) dark and silt covered. The anchor was embedded nicely. I took a few frames and started the ascent only to meet the other diver at about 35 feet. It seems that he got better so we headed east. As we proceeded east, the silt layer became thinner as the floor of the lake became more inclined. Sand patches soon showed. At 25 feet the bottom was a gentle sand slope (about 5 to 10 degrees). We stopped for a while to watch some clams filter feed. This tire became the largest single piece of litter found in the lake this year. It turned out to be a whitewall made by Montgomery Ward. It was rolled up the sand slope, from 30 feet to 8 feet, then removed from the water with the dive boat. If you want it, let me know soon. It would make a good pier bumper or dump filler.

-Nemo
