September 7th through 13th, 2020

At this point in the year, the weather can break two ways. It can put on a close impression of July or it can give us a preview of late November. Much of last week was the November-y one. At the beginning of the week, the trees were still dressed in their summer greenery. The temperature of the lake on Labor Day was about 10°F cooler than Summer's peak. Less enjoyable but still swimmable. It's unlikely that the water will get warmer. With that in mind, it was decided that Labor Day evening was the time to remove the ski show dock from in front of Waters Edge. It took about two hours. The process will be repeated in reverse next June. No deer were bonked on the way to and from Water's Edge. Around mid-week, an eagle made several low passes over the north end of the lake. We weren't the only ones that took notice. As the morning temperature dropped close to freezing (no frost yet!), Lake Lucerne steamed. The lake level continues to fall, so it's safe to assume that there are still islands under the huge drifts of steam that piled up on the South end of the lake. Lake Metonga was also giving up its heat all week. The weekend was wet. It started raining late Friday and stopped about 36 hours later. By Sunday morning the lake was over an inch deeper And the yard puddles are back. The rain and cold finally pushed some of the trees over the edge. Peak color should be about 2 weeks away. By the end of the week, the lake's temperature dropped to 62°F. As the lake cools into the 50s°F and 40s°F you should see less "sea smoke" and more of this year's ice-in contest. While you'll also see less skiing, diving, and swimming, there's still plenty of golf to be had and a few more piers and boats to remove.

-Nemo prefers disassembling in the water to lifting sections onto the shore.
