Labor Day Weekend

Next »

September 3rd through 6th, 2010

It rained on Friday. The lake grew 1.3 inches deeper plus a bit more from watershed inflow. By sunset, the clouds started to part and the air was cooler by a noticeable amount. After a few chores and two 9 hole warm-up rounds, Saturday was almost over. Joints were lubricated for Sunday's tournament with the ever popular and flaming Bailey's Comet. By Sunday, the clouds were few and the wind not so gale-ly (it was really windy on both Friday and Saturday). A great day for golf. Four strokes separated first from last for the 7 teams that made up the field for this years Knott Lane Open. About 65 people attended the post tournament party and award ceremony at the bar. Thanks to all the golfers and attendees that made this years open one of the best ever! On Monday, in one of the more joyless events of the year, lifts were pulled from the increasingly cool waters and a parade of boats were removed from the lake at the public boat landing. I would estimate that less then 25% of the boats remained on the lake. In a cascade of trouble starting with a WPS power problem and ending with a loss of internet, the webcam lost connectivity for awhile on Friday after 5:30 PM and for a time on Saturday, Sunday and Monday it was also down. The issues seem to be fixed and all are currently stable for now. The ice-in contest will not be up until early October but it might be profitable to start thinking about it now. I've narrowed the date down to sometime between the Fall's elections and January but that's all the help I'll give. With some timely rain, the lake seems to be holding its own. With all the dysphoric (oh, a college boy eah?) excitement of lift pulling, the lake measurement was overlooked. Next time, we'll get it for sure.

-Nemo was halfway to the car when the fireworks started going off.
