The Last Weekend in April

Next »

April 23rd through 25th, 2010

During the weekend, the sun was last seen on Friday evening. Warm and dry were also last seen on Friday. The fire danger was listed as VERY HIGH on Friday. A small, well contained fire was enjoyed on the deck instead of a much hoped for stump burning. The lake area needs rain. Rain! On Saturday a small amount of the wet stuff wafted from the sky. An inch or 2 was prayed for. The lake got less than one-tenth of an inch. Better then nothing, but not much. No trillium were found near the lake yet but the trees are budding and some other perennials are coming up. A few trillium were observed in small patches along Hwy 8 between Bug Lake road and Laona. The lake needs rain. Real rain, not that fake one-tenth of an inch stuff. The Holy Hill area got almost 4 inches on Saturday night. Sigh. We were informed of a rumor that the DNR will not open the boat landing until the lake level comes up. It does not strike me as true, but they may not dredge the landing again which will effectively close the landing to all but the smallest boats. I'm pretty sure that the launch by Water's Edge is open but there may be a fee. Don't know for sure, but I'll find out before Memorial Day weekend. Buckets of rain between now and then will make the landing questions moot. Let's hear it for moot. Go moot. Yeah moot. Come on moot. The lake needs rain.

-Nemo
