End of January Weekend

Next »

January 28th through 31st, 2010

We made it up late Thursday and hit Brule on Friday instead of Saturday. For the first few hours it was 17 runs, 4 lifts, and us two. More people came later in the day but the slopes were still pretty empty. The lake area witnessed a great winter sunset on Friday night. The hard, cold light of Saturday morning showed that the phone booth was placed a bit to close to the bar. Snow sliding from the roof was slowly pushing it over. Rescued! It took about a half hour to pull it away from the avalanche zone. A hole was drilled on Saturday to check the ice. There is just over 14 inches on the lake. The top 2 inches is the airy kind. The bottom 12 inches is the solid kind. The north bottle rocket fort will need some major restoration if is ever to be used in combat again. The south fort is a complete tear down. The webcam on the north end survived the weekend cold. Saturday morning was reported to be 10°F under it's recommended operating temperature by that guy at the dump that demands your permit number. Saturday's sunset was every bit as good as Friday's. The brief warm-up last week has taken much of the snow from the lake. Only about an inch or two of the white stuff covers open areas. There was more in drifts nearer the shore. If the snow remains thin in the middle, the lake golf season should start on Saturday February 13th this year.

-Nemo
