First Ice-Free Weekend

April 24th through 26th, 2009

Lake Lucerne
Friday, the day the ice went out, was great. We had finished the front nine had enough time/daylight to surrender several balls to the back but the western sky was looking a little funny. Not ha ha funny. More like strap on a PFD and grab a tree funny.
Lake Lucerne
We made it back to the lake in time to watch a bigger storm than we've seen in a while start to blow through.
Lake Lucerne
It got very dark, very windy, and very wet in a very short time. There was much electrical activity for the first few hours.
Lake Lucerne
By late Saturday morning, the rain had stopped. All the creeks and streams feeding into the lake, which were dry 2 weeks ago, were full of flowing water.
Lake Lucerne
Saturday evening had a great sunset, a campfire, and beer.
Lake Lucerne
The rocks in front of Walerko's are starting to slip under the clear, cold water. If the lake can get 5 or 6 more weeks like this last one, the level will be close to the nail and there will be many happy people on the south end that will have access again. An eagle and several loons fished the north end all weekend, jumping the gun on the start of the game fishing season.
