Water-Out Weekend

November 28th & 29th, 2008

Lake Lucerne
We made it up late on Friday. Jupiter and Venus were dancing in the south (what would Adonis say!?) and cold was flowing in from the north.
Lake Lucerne
The northeastern corner of the shore on Saturday was everything you would expect this time of year: A heavy dusting of snow, cool crisp air, and a few distant shots marking the end of deer hunting..
Lake Lucerne
All along the north shore there were these animal tracks. I think they were made by a bird.
Lake Lucerne
The webcam has survived the low temperatures so far. We should all be able to watch ice-in this week.
Lake Lucerne
On Saturday morning, ice was growing from the shore in the NE corner.
Lake Lucerne
The rocks from the old dance hall on the north end have never been this high above the water since I have been coming up to the lake in 1970. We need a wet winter and spring.
Lake Lucerne
The ice on the shore of the NW corner crept out further than the east shore. The sun and waves broke it up by lake noon.
Lake Lucerne
Holes in the ice, combined with wind, pumped water on to the surface of the sheet.
Lake Lucerne
The public boat landing has a bit too much ice to launch a boat, but not enough to bring out the ice shacks.
Lake Lucerne
The ice by Water's Edge was thinner, but it would still be difficult to get a boat in or out.
Lake Lucerne
All it will take is 1 or 2 cold, still nights and it'll be frozen over. I'd like to thank all the people who visited the ad banner and made the contest possible and aLf for coming up with the idea. The first Lake Lucerne and Area quiz is done and being coded. It should be up by January. There are may ways to divide the $25 prize for the winner/winners so I'll be asking you for your input in a poll soon.
