Cold, Less Cold, Cold

November 10th through 16th, 2025

Lake Lucerne
Last week started cold. There was a brief warm up near the weekend suitable for jacketed golf. Then the cold returned.
Lake Lucerne
It was warmer more west and south of Lucerne. The autumnal leaf change has yet to touch many of the trees in the extreme southwestern corner of the lake area.
Lake Lucerne
In addition to much warmer weather, the southwestern corner of the lake sports a few old and new timey pinball machines.
Lake Lucerne
Maybe one or two more than a few. They all fit quite well into an old aircraft hangar.

Lake Lucerne
Walking to the machines and back was made safer by like a billion bollards that seperate lunatic drivers from the sidewalk.
Lake Lucerne
Just off the strip close to the pinball machines, someone left one of the biggest chainsaws we've ever seen.
Lake Lucerne
It doesn't appear to have the sharpest blade ever, but the hydraulics must help compensate for the chain's dullness.
Lake Lucerne
Just up the street from the giant chainsaw, rests a sphinx.
Lake Lucerne
At night there's some lights, too.
Lake Lucerne
We couldn't find a way up to ride the sphinx, but there were a few smaller, unguarded sphinx minions sprinkled around the property.
Lake Lucerne
With all the hiking, pinball, and sphinx riding, low blood sugar and exhaustion could be a problem. It turns out that the former was not an issue. They've got stores for that.
Lake Lucerne
There's also a store with molten chocolate falling from the ceiling.
Lake Lucerne
In between and all around the chocolate are some non-pinball machines. Some are more fun than others.
Lake Lucerne
There was no snow on the lake last week, but there was a little rain in the extreme southwestern corner.
Lake Lucerne
It took all day, but it eventually ended.
Lake Lucerne
Wedged between all the pinball, chocolate, and spinx, was the Knottlane Board Meeting, Shareholder Conference, and Pool Party. The pool party turned out to be not so good because all the pools closed before the event. The shareholder meeting was a bust because we forgot to send invitations. The board meeting was deemed a complete success after a new and completely horrific bottle of monkey spirits was added to the bar's stock. If you went ape over last summer's peanut butter whiskey, you'll love bourbon disturbingly infused with banana flavor. There may be some ice involved. Or maybe some fire. Either way, the next bar night will be a night to remember. Or forget. It's all good.
Lake Lucerne
The lake could have used all the rain that fell just to the south and west of it. The falling lake level has made more beach all around the shoreline.
Lake Lucerne
The Knottlane Board Meeting, Shareholder Conference, and Pool Party has mostly ended. All that remains are the final ceremonies, packing parade, and drive back to the bar. There's no ice on the shore yet, but signs of ice-in are coming along with Bambi murder season. It's important to note that a cheap bourbon, disgustingly inoculated with banana served over ice...or on fire...might be just the thing to get that gamey venison taste out of your mouth.
