Not Summer, With Some Rain

October 13th through 19th, 2025

Lake Lucerne
Temperatures last week were more autumnal than summery, especially after the sun went down. In addition to the more normal temperatures, there was some rain and plenty of wind. The season is a changing.
Lake Lucerne
There's a new, colorful, and informative sign at the dump. The men really like the inclusion of Wednesdays during the winter.
Lake Lucerne
The days seemed to alternate between clear and still to overcast and windy. The clear days tended to be a bit cooler.
Lake Lucerne
Local ne'er-do-wells were active during the clear parts and the cloudy parts.
Lake Lucerne
Lucerne was steaming many mornings as the lake gave up its heat to the frosty air.
Lake Lucerne
The steaming would stop before the afternoon.
Lake Lucerne
Some of the trees are still showing lots of color.
Lake Lucerne
Many more trees have moved on.
Lake Lucerne
Some of the trees at the NCC are in full spectacle.
Lake Lucerne
The cattails are getting totally splodey.
Lake Lucerne
An eagle (or two?) have been floating over the green on five all week. The baby raccoon pile in the fairway on six, not too far from five's green, has not been seen in a while.
Lake Lucerne
The course itself is in good shape except for all the ball hiding leaf cover on the fairways and greens.
Lake Lucerne
During many days, the wind died and the lake got super flat.
Lake Lucerne
Someone should really have skied.
Lake Lucerne
Most of the rain came at night. The heaviest fell late Thursday into Friday.
Lake Lucerne
By Sunday, the lake temperature fell to 56°F. That's the coldest it's been this fall. The feeling is this trend will continue well into November.
Lake Lucerne
It was colder last week. Not close to the horrors of winter, but cool enough to more than imply that swimming season is over. Unless you really want to take a quick dunk and are not very sane. More of the trees are holding on to their color than I can ever recall. It hasn't frosted much this year. Maybe the extended color-rama is related to that. The forecast is for more mid-fall than late summer, so maybe that will take down the last of the leaves. Until then, think about an ice-in date. The 2025 contest will be up sooner rather than later.

-Nemo: Mostly sane, not swimming.
