Last week started off warm, calm, and smoke free. Thanks to our apparently "Smokey the Bearless" neighbors to the north, the week would not end smokelessly.

Under all the clear, unsmokey water, the fish are active on the rocks and cribs of Lucerne.

There were two ski shows on Lucerne last week. The Monday show was well attended.

The acts were not as solid as Monday's, but the ropemanship displayed by one skier during the final pyramid resulted in the first "ropeless base guy" that we can remember.

A day after the last ski show, the evening's blue sky was covered up by exploading clouds.

On Friday morning the lake was a quarter of an inch deeper.

Despite much eagle activity on the north end, the sky raccoons are back and the little ones have reached that gawky stage.

Much to the delight of Mrs Nemo, a monarch caterpillar continued to munch up the milkweed along Potawatomi Trail.

The lake temperature ended the week at 78°F.

Being under that 78°F blanket was a great way to escape the weekend's heat and smoke.

A poor way to escape the smoke was to hit the links. What the course lacked in air quality, it more than made up for in a lack of other golfers.

Any disagreement between the efficacy of Califorina's Los Angeles Fire Department and those tasked with putting out Canada's wildfires is akin to a rock and brick arguing over who's the better swimmer. This is the second year in a row that the air is tinged with the smell of burnt moose, but there are ways to cope with the smoke. While a full tank of air can last for an entire 9 holes, wearing a BC and tank can affect your swing. On the plus side, wearing a dive mask shouldn't make your game any worse, but could turn the water hazards into a used ball extravaganza! With any luck the smoke and sky raccoons will move along sooner rather than later.
