Rain and Adventure

June 23rd through 29th, 2025

Lake Lucerne
After a half an inch of overnight rain, last week started off dry or at least drying off.
Lake Lucerne
The drying off part would change quickly and definitively around mid-week.
Lake Lucerne
The rain started a few hours before the scheduled ski show. It did not stop. The show was canceled.
Lake Lucerne
The lake level is going up.
Lake Lucerne
Lawn mowing is getting more complicated.
Lake Lucerne
The flying raccoons infesting the north end of Lucerne disappeared during much of the storms. We hoped they had moved on or met a pack of hungry foxen. Alas, they were back on the weekend.
Lake Lucerne
Around mid-rain, we treked south partly to escape the storms but mostly to see Summerfest.
Lake Lucerne
There were far more "Energy Dome" hats than we can ever remember seeing at the lake front event.
Lake Lucerne
In addition to the music, there was art. Some of the art was northwoods themed and ent-ish.
Lake Lucerne
At night, it glowed.
Lake Lucerne
Other art included a full moon.
Lake Lucerne
And a camper made from a Costco sized can of beans.
Lake Lucerne
Not everything at the festival involved music, ents, and bean can related arts and crafts.
Lake Lucerne
On the journey back to Lucerne we stopped at Virmond Park just north of the festival to get in a set of Tennis and take in the view.
Lake Lucerne
Ozaukee County has built a staircase (228 stairs) down the bluffs to the lake shore. Going down is easier than going up.
Lake Lucerne
At the top of the bluff, people that donated for the project got to put their name, pet's name, or something better on a brick in the paved trailhead.
Lake Lucerne
A passing storm at early dark o'clock on Sunday pushed the lake up another quarter of an inch.
Lake Lucerne
The lake temperature has climbed to 75°F. There'll be a lot more swimming and diving in the near term.
Lake Lucerne
Water hazards at the NCC course are starting to spill over their banks.
Lake Lucerne
Some hollows are becoming new water hazards.
Lake Lucerne
There have been more skiers as of late. A few efoils, too.
Lake Lucerne
With all the calm water after the storms, there should have been more skiing, kneeboarding, and footing.
Lake Lucerne
What last week lacked in ski show, it more than made up for in sheepshead, ents, bluff climbing, tennis, and DEVO. The hot, wet weather has us mowing twice a week. On still nights, you can almost hear the grass growing. Despite the cacophony of events, the men are not limping and/or moaning much. This could be due to the toughing up during the maple syrup season, but more likely attributable to the resupply of the bar's energy drinks. The increasingly aerobic nature of slapping mosquitoes may also play no small part in local fitness.
