Nemo Plans, God Laughs

December 2nd through 8th, 2024

It was cooler than normal last week until the weekend. The littoral waters of Lucerne have been described as slushy, but the lake remained open. The Knottlane Board Meeting and Pool Party moved off strip as the event winded down. The event ended on Thursday and we left the extreme southwestern corner of the lake and its tall cabins of many lights for the freezing shores of Lake Lucerne. There's a little snow on top of some of the lumps between the meeting site and the bar. The plan was to get back to the bar by Saturday night. A half a mile before mile marker 29 on I-80 in Iowa Mrs Nemo's car quit. The popular theory is a bad alternator. There was too much adventure here to describe in any summary page. We ended up carless in Avoca, Iowa which is very much not like Vegas. There are fewer crowds here and no gambling, but Avoca has many more cars on poles than Vegas. With nothing helpful open in Iowa until Monday we ate Taco John food and saw a few indigestion filled sunsets. As this is being written, Mrs Nemo's car is being resurrected at a KIA dealer in Council Bluffs, Iowa. We're hoping to leave Avoca to join the car, and Lucerne remains open. The lake has benn reported as close to ice-in, but with warmer temperatures at the start of the week, it may be a while. With a little luck we'll have a better feel for ice-in and less webcamy images soon.

-Nemo has had enough of Taco John.
