August's Twilight

August 26th through September 1st, 2024

Lake Lucerne
Last week started off hazy. Then it rained. After that, there was sun, cooler temperatures, and some golf.
Lake Lucerne
The lake got rain, but needed more. Lucerne's level fell about 4 inches for the month of August.
Lake Lucerne
Before the rain, the hot from the previous weekend spilled into Monday. The 90°F air and sun pushed the lake temperature to a very swimmable 76°F.
Lake Lucerne
The lake water was also very diveable.
Lake Lucerne
The rain moved out Wednesday evening. The line between the storm and blue sky was very pronounced. One hour seperated cool and rainy from cool and clear.
Lake Lucerne
In addition to cool and clear, the weather left behind a very flat lake.
Lake Lucerne
On both sides of the rain, there was skiing.
Lake Lucerne
Sunsets are getting earlier and earlier. Skiing until close to 9:00 PM is no longer a thing.
Lake Lucerne
Local hummingbirds are downing about a quart of food a day.
Lake Lucerne
The seed/suet eaters also have their late summer glutten on.
Lake Lucerne
The weekend kicked off with plenty of sun and some lumpy water.

On Sunday one of the last big events of the summer tee'd off. The Knott Lane Open featured a record 38 golfers divided into 10 teams. A special thanks to Mrs Nemo for her superb organizational skills to seamlessly pack the NCC course for almost 2 hours.
Lake Lucerne
None of the NCC turtles were harmed during the entire event.
Lake Lucerne
All were dressed appropriately, but some continued to pursue the currently nonexistant best dressed team award.

The awards and accolades for the winning team and individual feats of golf were presented later at The Bar.
Lake Lucerne
The Knott Lane Open bar night started off as a smaller affair.
Lake Lucerne
It quickly grew to a full fleged packed bar night.
Lake Lucerne
The Sunday event pushed well into Monday.

With the end of Labor Day Weekend, many close the book on summer. Not us. September still holds swimmable lake water, at least at the start, and the days are still long and warm enough to exhaust the most summer fit individuals. Don't put away the ibuprofen and energy drinks just yet, the push to squeeze the most from summer 2024 is about to begin.

-Nemo's recovering nicely, but please keep it down.
