The weather got better, then worse. When the sun was visible in the evening, we had spectacular sunsets. Later in the week, the sun was smothered by snow.
Earlier in the week, when the sun was out, the lake saw temperatures in excess of twenty degrees Fahrenheit. Heat wave!
Wind and snow, but mostly wind, have given last week's Bottle Rocket War forts a more natural look. The drifts surrounding the walls are over 2 feet high.
Until we pick them up, the north end of the lake has hundreds of small, red sundials poking out of the 18 inches of snow.
The deer shaped suet feeders that have been hanging around Knott Lane since late last November are a favorite of many types of birds.
During a morning in the middle of the week, it was remarked that a fire may be consuming a few cabins and woods on the Northwestern side of the lake. It turned out to be a controlled burn on county highway W. The crisp, fresh air was peppered with the smell of burning plastic for much of the day.
It's cold again. But with this round of cold, we are seeing lows in the single minus digits and highs close to ten. Progress. Sure it's only five or six degrees, but if this trend continues, we'll be seeing lows well above freezing by June. Or July. With the warmer temps, will come more snow. Adding that to the amount currently covering everything, we are optimistic about the lake level. To help pass the time between now and ice-out, we will be doing "Throwback Thursdays" update summary pages. Every Thursday, until we tire of doing it, a summary page from the 70s, 80s, or 90s (°F) will be created and posted. There is that, plus the 2014 Ice-Out Contest will be posted during the next few weeks.
