| Ice-In Report I November 28th through December 4th |

| Back near the end of last week, when there was snow on the ground and ice-in was imminent, we were told to get some deer hunting stuff out of the woods. The stand in question was about 200 feet too far North of a very populated deer trail judging from the number of tracks in the snow. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| A little further north, there's a private bridge over a currently dry creek. It was built by a few engineers some time ago. As I understand it, one of those guys became the Chief Engineer on the Marquette Interchange project a few months after they built this. That freeway project, through downtown Milwaukee, finished early and under budget, proving it's good to hire a man with experience. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Ice-in cam is up (thanks goes to aLf for the camera)! My only regret is not using a 50 foot cable we have instead of a 25 foot one. With 25 more feet the camera could be right on the shore. Maybe later this week I'll swap cables out (it's a bigger pain than you may think). | |||||||||||||||||||||
| But I digress, this report was not to be about deer, bridges or cables, but the state of the 2012 Lake Lucerne ice-in. Warmer weather has all but erased the snow. The lake, frozen last week near the islands, is now totally ice free. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| The North end of the lake had a bit of ice early in the week. Now there is only cold, crystal clear water. Last night (Monday) at around 10 PM the warmer temperatures we were enjoying (there was even talk of golf!) ended. A very intense, very short lived rain hit the area and the tempertures started going down. Fast. The forecasts are calling for cold and very cold. Sub-zero is only weeks away. If your place is seasonal, it's time. Turn off the water, drain the pipes, shutter the windows and bring in the brass monkeys. -Nemo has a hat and plans on wearing it. Previous Next |
