Middle of July Weekend
July 14th through 17th
The sunset on Friday was well worth the price of admission to the northwoods.  The air was hot this weekend and many spent their time trying to cool off.
The focus of most of the cooling schema involved the lake.  Skiing/kneeboarding was pretty effective in getting a cool on.
Some tried to beat the heat by cutting and splitting wood for next year's maple syrup season.  They didn't look much cooler to me but, whatever.
Spending some time on the bottom of the lake was also refreshing.  The thermocline is at about 20 feet and the water under the "shimmer" is a cold 50ish F.
A big eagle hunted the north end of the lake all weekend.
Fish!  The lake is thick with 'em.  We mostly saw swarms of bluegills but the bass were also plentiful.

Hot.  Peak summer heat is here.  We seem to only get a few weeks of this warm so enjoy it while it lasts.  The sticky air is often accompanied by strong thunderstorms and that can only be described as good for the lake.  With the long, cold Spring still fresh in mind, it's hard not to think that Fall could be knocking in just a few weeks.  Until then, keep your hands on the rope and your ski near the water.
