End of Summer Weekend
August 15th through 19th
On Friday night, clouds moved in to cover the moon and the first damp chill in the air I can remember since spring hung over the lake.  Clear signs of the "death of summer".
The northwoods were hot, sunny, and dry on both Thurday and Friday.  With the sun setting near 8:00 PM and sunrise occuring well before nemorise, "Summer" was the best descriptive word for the season.
Late year flowers painted the side of the roads with color.
Some didn't so much as paint, but hinted a bit of roadside color.
It was agreed that there is enough wood in the woodshed to declare  it full.  Don't ask for a piece from the back until late March.
Rain! With a distintive Autumnal feel, fell on Saturday.  It was not much, but more is expected all next week.

Purests, I'm looking at you aLf, will tell you that fall starts on the equinox.  I hold to a more nuanced, meteorological view of the seasons.  If the trees are showing some color, the air is cool and damp, and the skies are gray, call it fall and start looking for a pumpkin to carve.  Fall started on Saturday north of Hwy 64.
