Last Ice Weekend
April 13th through 15th   
The fish was moved into place and leveled with few injuries.  Lt won the first game.
At 7:00 pm, the sun was still kissing the last of the snow and ice that had covered the ground and lake. There was little time to enjoy the sunset because we had a 673 pound fish to fry.
The liquid part of the lake was calm Saturday morning.  The ice was proving surprisingly tenacious.
A festive one course meal was prepared to celebrate the new addition to the bar.
After a brief negotiation, it was agreed to breakfast at the Log Cabin Cafe.  The special was a ham and cheese omelette, potato, and toast.  No pancakes were eaten.
The pens behind the courthouse are filled with deer.  The animals seemed more curious about us then we turned out to be about them.
The new motel on the east side of Crandon looks to be a Best Western.  It should be ready for the brush run.
The ice is piling up on the downwind shores of Lake Metonga.  The road on the east side of the lake had been covered in past years but was open this spring.
The stream flowing out of Metonga was full.  If only there was a way to filter all the invasive species out and divert it into Lucerne.
The boat launch at Veterans Park was open.  No boats were put in while we were there.
The sign was clearly not heeded by everyone.  Watch your step when in the park.
Some signs in the park itself amused all.
By the afternoon, the sun was getting hot (for April) and the ice was in full retreat.
After coming back to Lucerne and cleaning our shoes, we checked out the cabin that burned down last Wednesday night.  There wasn't much left.
The other building is still just a foundation.
Construction at Timber Shores was halted during the weekend.  Much progress was made last week.
Maintenance was performed on the webcam after power was restored to the device Sunday.  It has preformed well since.
The cold nights and warm days of the weekend produced record amounts of sap that was collected and boiled.  Sappers were still dealing with a sap backup when we left on Sunday.

The ice will be gone by next weekend and the nail will be returned to the lake on April 27th.  It looked like Nicolet Country Club was going to be opening the golf course this week.  It's going to be a great summer.
