New Year's Weekend

Next »

December 29th, 2006 through January 1st, 2007

The weather on the 30th and 31st was the same. Temperatures just above freezing and thick fog/rain all day. After a few more weekends like this, the lake level will be back to normal. Some took advantage of the packing nature of the snow and rolled several large snowballs. The logging at Timber Shores is past the cut phase and into the pick period. Quite a few cords are on the ground. Despite the warmer temperatures, the ice is over 8 inches thick. The ice could be described as "quality ice". Very clear and hard. The swimming hole was cut (larger than last year), but nobody wanted to go in at midnight due primarily to the weather (rain/snow/fog). The first sushi night on the north end of the lake that I'm aware of went off without a hitch. It was fun and no one suffered permanent gastric injury. Just as the sun came up on the first day of the new year, clouds were pushed away and the light bounced off the new 3 inches of snow. The webcam had it's IP address changed by our provider prior to our arrivial. The result was a loss of connectivity. It was all fixed by Saturday. The snow that fell on Monday morning was very sticky. It stuck to trees, power lines, and anything else left outside. We'll be back in about 2 weeks to check ice, build forts, and have the 15th Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War. If you plan to attend this years event, call and leave a message at the bar, (715) 478-0672, and let us know. Fort building will be from the 18th through the 20th with the war on the night of the 20th. I'm going to have a special webcam page set up than will update about every 10 seconds. If you can't be on the lake January 20th, you can still see it live.

-Nemo
