Labor Day Weekend

September 1st through 4th, 2006

Lake Lucerne
The weather over Labor Day weekend was the same as the rest of the summer, simply great. Many attended the meeting of the Lake Lucerne Assocation on Saturday morning. The discussion of effectively banning skiing south of the islands was filled with tension. There was much anxiety over bringing in the DNR to add more rules to the lake.

After the meeting, stress was relieved by getting in a little "bottom time" on the north end.

The weeds are thicker on the north end than in past years due perhaps to the lower water level. The result seems to be vast schools of small fish (bluegills, perch, bass) in the weed mass. I also crossed paths with one very well fed northern pike.

Saturday's bar night was friendly and well populated. It was noted that some species handle their beverage better than others.

The lake level continues to drop as it has every fall. It is now about 6 inches below the nail. Let's hope for a snowy winter.

The webcam continues to work well when it gets power. I don't think I'll be alone watching the big hill on the east shore turn from green to gold this autumn.

There are signs of fall in the trees and the air by the time we left on Monday. We'll be back soon to finish preparing the shore for winter and crunch through the fallen leafs.
