Winter Weekend

March 3rd & 4th, 2006

The moon was setting by the time we made it up on Friday. MrsNemo & I worked on the webcam for hours with limited success. It is not yet "live" but is downloading to a local ftp server at the highest resolution possible for the camera.
(MrsNemo 's comment; Nemo included me as helper just to be nice -- he was the one who figured it out. I was just providing moral support.)

As the sun came up on Saturday all the snow became fearfully visible. There is plenty of the white stuff on anything outside. I would say about one and a half feet on the ground. We tried to piggyback the images collecting on the local ftp server on the weather station's ftp transfer to a public site (The firewall is not configured to allow internet users past to get the the ftp server currently getting the images). It should have worked.

I particularly like the snow "hat" that forms on all weber grills. Images are currently being captured every 2 minutes from just before sunrise until well after sunset on the local server. I will get those images going to knottlane on St Partick's Day. Ice-out will be viewed!

The ice is about 20 inches thick with a foot and a half layer of snow on top of that. Walking around on the lake is quite a chore.

The forts from the bottle rocket war are still up and shrinking. (mostly)

The body of water in front of the Liquor Lode is getting pretty deep. There are rumors that divers had to pull a car out after the driver foolishly used the mailbox. Talk is that the DNR will be stocking it soon with many species of fish including musky.

I'll get the webcam moving those images it's taking to a public site the next time we are up (March 17th). Until then be assured the ice is thick and the snow deep.
