The Weekend After Labor Day Weekend

September 9th through 11th, 2005

We arrived late and just caught the end of Friday's spectacularly red sunset. The trees are showing more color. The stress from the lack of rain this summer should push peak color up a week or so. This year we wanted to make an effort to dive Silver lake near Laona. On Saturday we hit the "less clear than Lucerne" water from the public beach. The Silver lake dive had less visibility and more weeds than Lucerne but was not completely unpleasant. There were fish everywhere and it wasn't very deep. Early Saturday night a strange glow slowly moved from west to east above the lake. I felt it was a cloud reflecting some ground light but Meg was convinced it was an aurora. Looks like she was right. It only lasted about 30 minutes, but was the first we witnessed in many years. The new hardware was delivered to increase the size of the wi-fi bubble on the north end. I'll try to install it in October. It should cover the entire north end of the lake. The webcam continues to work great with the live images. I fought with it for a while to get it to also ftp images to the web recording area but I would have none of that. The device may have won this round but I'll be back. We will be back in 2 weeks to observe peak color and golf till we bleed.

-Nemo
