The Weekend After the 4th of July

July 8th through 12th, 2005

Lake Lucerne
The weekend weather started out good and got better.
Lake Lucerne
The nights were hot. The waning moon set early and the stars came out in force.
Lake Lucerne
Fireworks on Friday were enjoyed/feared by all.
Lake Lucerne
On Monday at 10:21 PM the International Space Station passed over the lake. It started out surprisingly bright and faded as it passed into the earth's shadow.
Lake Lucerne
The weather all weekend was stunning. Hot, dry, calm, and sunny Friday through Tuesday. We ended up over doing many good weather sports and, just now, the pain is almost out of my arms.
Lake Lucerne
The dry weather seems OK for ducks. They are getting pretty big.
Lake Lucerne
The water is still very clear. It is also very warm for Lucerne. In the past the first thing you wanted to bring swimming was an ax to make a hole (and fend off bears). The water is close to 80°F. No spud hole needed.
Lake Lucerne
The lack of wind made for some good skiing. We skied so much it seems to have had an effect on the price of gas. Sorry about that.
Lake Lucerne
An eagle had quite a bit of success fishing the north end of the lake. He also posed quite well for me. Good eagle.
Lake Lucerne
After the over flight of the ISS, the skiing, fishing, diving, tennis, golf, and unsafe fireworks we needed a drink. Watermelontinis were enjoyed by all.
Lake Lucerne
The webcam is "waiting for a part". I hope to get it back and up next week. The dry weather is great for vacationers but the lake is going down fast. It's losing about an inch a week. If this keeps up for a few more weeks getting boats off some lifts could be a problem.
