2005 Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War - Epilogue

January 9th, 2005

Lake Lucerne
The stars were out a few nights before the Bottle Rocket War. It was cloudy on Saturday during the event.
Lake Lucerne
With heat packets firmly attached to the camera to keep it alive during the war we headed out to the ice...
Lake Lucerne
From the start it became clear that some lighters were up to the task and some were not.
Lake Lucerne
A lone snowmobile came from the south near the end of the war but wisely turned around before it came into range.
Lake Lucerne
I focused my first attacks on Jeff's walls mostly because of the wind direction.
Lake Lucerne
That is not to say that Meg did not get her share of attention.
Lake Lucerne
It was around this time that I bellowed to Jeff, "Say hello to my little friend"!
Lake Lucerne
It has been noted that it seemed that Meg and Jeff did not match the volume of fire that came from my fort. This could be the luck of the shot in that the camera was programmed to take 1 minute exposures with 2 minutes in between frames. Meg's comment, "Stupid camera."
Lake Lucerne
The view from my fort looking at an attack on Jeff's.
Lake Lucerne
The firing turret helps to improve the odds of a direct strike by about 10-fold, but the rockets mostly seem to have a mind of their own.
Lake Lucerne
The next morning came the Great Stick Pick-Up.
Lake Lucerne
Jeff's pummeled walls still stood and even held a few sticks.
Lake Lucerne
The lite snow started to collect in the trees first.
Lake Lucerne
We managed to pick up all the sticks before they were buried by the white stuff.
Lake Lucerne
The ice is thick enough to support cars and trucks. These guys were ice fishing on the northeast corner.
Lake Lucerne
We came back through Cecil If just a few more ice fishing shacks are put on Lake Shawano it will qualify for it's own zipcode.
Lake Lucerne
We'll be back on January 21st to get the webcam and weather station back. Until then it looks very cold at the lake with lows predicted under -20°F and highs some days below 0°F.
