Pier in Weekend

The skies were blue and the lake glass when we arrived on Friday. After unpacking and soaking in the splender of the northwoods, we grabbed a quick 9 holes at Nicolet and dinner at Copper Country.

Saturday was a bit more cloudy and cool. This is the last known image of the nail before it was returned to the lake.

The nail was returned quickly and with little fanfare. The knot that held the pier up looked formidable but surprised me with how easily it came out, resulting in the unexpected transfer of the pier load from a tree to my grasp. The pier was lowered somewhat gently. The rope burns weren't too bad. The lake is up 6 inches from 2 weeks ago! All the rain raised it to 11 inches above the nail.

Anyone missing a tree chunk? This waterlogged specimen washed up on shore and will be dried and burned if not claimed.

While putting in the main pier, one thought kept coming to me: "man, this water is cold". I'll put the temperature sensor back in the lake in a few weeks. The less known about the water temperature now the happier we will all be.

The rest of the day we installed a firewall/bridge/router/wireless entry point to the webcam computer. It seems to be working great and a better webcam is one step closer. The current webcam now updates with 5 pictures, taken 10 minutes apart, at the top and bottom of the hour from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. I love logging in around 7:00 AM to catch sunrise.

The wind picked up and the pressure dropped as more rain started to push in late Saturday and Sunday. We had to leave to attend a sheepshead game on Saturday night and work on Sunday. Comet NEAT (and LINEAR) should start being visible in the southwest in a few weeks. I hope these clouds now will give way to clear skies then.
