The Weekend before Labor Day Weekend

August 22nd through 24th, 2003

We left for the lake later than usual on Friday and stopped to eat at the Lake Side Inn on the shores of Lake Anderson between Suring and Mountain. Their land and sea buffet is one of the best in the state! After eating we waddled out to the car and watched the sunset over Lake Anderson, a nice lake but no Lake Lucerne. We made it to the lake well after sunset and the stars were out in force! The night was moonless and cloud free. The milky way dominated the sky to the south. It's one of my favorite summer night sky objects. Mars was the brightest object in the sky. It's closer to us than it's been in 60,000 years. Fishing with cane poles using worms was the highlight of the afternoon on Saturday. We drown bait along the northwest shore working our way north. This log, protruding from the water for as long as I can remember (over 30 years), used to have a red flag attached. During the trip we had chicken ala Schaefer's and Grandma's potato salad. Food tastes better while floating on the lake. The frog was not fed. Schaefer's had a sale on "colossal" black olives. These are superior to other sizes in that they fit adult fingers without splitting. We had colossal storms on Sunday morning. I regret not photographing the lightning and vow that next time I will get out of bed and capture a few good shots. The clouds broke at around 8:30 AM and the winds from the south made conditions on the north end rough.

-Nemo
