Footstock Week (1995)

Next »

August 2nd through 11th, 1995

The week started out with warm weather, a partly cloudy sky and rainbows. But the best was to occur a few days later... Footstock! For over a decade now, the figure eight barefoot championship is an event that is simply not to be missed. It's moved from its origins on Lake Lucerne but the Clear Lake venue is still nice. There were boats, footers, stitches and duct tape to hold those stiches in place. There was also plenty of volley ball and port 'o potties. Later in the week, the lake had its weekly B-52 pass. The north end of the lake had other fly-overs as well. Bowling continues in Crandon, despite Footstock and the Lake Lucerne fly-overs. After a hard week of playing, the Pied Piper in Rhinelander was deemed the best place to obtain much needed protein. I really should write a review of this supper club. Thankfully there's plenty of time, a place like this will never close. Footstock was great. Oh, there was the odd popped stitch and port 'o potty incident, but the heart of Summer 1995 can not be faulted for this. The weather was hot all week and Lake Lucerne is at its peak in terms of swimability. There were far more para-sail passes than B-52 passes on the lake this week. We like it when the boat driver slows down to "Dip" the toes (feet, knees, rest) of the sailer into the lake.

-Nemo, not too worried about Y2K.
