Burning Boathouse Weekend

June 8th through 12th, 1994

Lake Lucerne
The lake level continues to be very high. Another foot and the dock will be under water. We've gained about 3 feet in the past 2 years. Who'da thunk it.
Lake Lucerne
Local residents seem unphased by the high water.

The old garage on the North end of Knott Lane (and the attached "Throne Room") continue to stand.

It's that time of year again, time for boats to join water. The image here was to display a ski boat on its way to the landing, but Krispa's car photo bombed the picture. It's blue.
Lake Lucerne
There is an old boathouse on the northeast shore that has become a favorite subject of painters and picture takers for several years now. I don't think it has held a boat or anything else for many years. Well, maybe the side facing Lake Lucerne Drive holds a condemned sign, but we've never looked.

On the evening of Saturday, June 11th, smoke was spotted on the water. The old boathouse was aflame. By Sunday morning it was gone. Godspeed old boathouse!
Lake Lucerne
Lake Lucerne is high and there is one less boathouse on its shore. I don't think that the old structure was salvageable but it took a good picture and, if the lake got any higher, it would have been fun to dive on it. If the water continues to rise the old garage will make a fine old boathouse and we can dive on the cabin. The lake was a little rough and more than a little cold. No one skied. Before we left, boats, piers and lifts were put into position for a ski-tastic July and August.
