It was colder last year. The temperature soared to over 35 F on the day of fort construction. This was the second time we had the now annual Bottle Rocket war on the lake. It was sunny, too.

A slush layer formed between the snow and the lake ice. Those with non-holey boots were unaffected.

This is the best picture of the second bottle rocket war. Note to self: to avoid the Batman villain lair effect, mount camera parallel to the ground. Seeing this, we half expect Burgess Meredith to waddle into frame and announce some fiendish plot.

By Sunday, just after sunrise, all that was left was to pick up a few hundred sticks and head back south. The mild temperatures aided the stick pickup.

In addition to the Second Annual Bottle Rocket War, there was also potato pancakes at Duck's on Friday (yum!) and "The Full Arcade Breakfast Experience" on Saturday morning. The full experience included order taking, a fight between a husband and wife (we think) over whose turn it was to cook, another argument about why some cooking equipment was not turned on, and, about 2 hours later, breakfast. Fort construction techniques included the ancient make-pile-of-snow--carve-fort-out-of-it method to the more modern bucket-made-and-stacked-cylinder method. Both methods had their drawbacks and many agreed another fort building approach needed to be found. Maybe a wall form of some sort.
