Spring Weekend

Next »

May 3rd through 6th, 1990

Spring! It's about time. The Winter has been long. Just when we figured we'd never see another trillium again, they're popping up all over the place. With the snow all but gone, it's time to put the water back in and assess winter snow damage on area structures. The old boat house on the north end has survived the snow and a branch bonking. At Timber Shores, the fish cleaning shed, cabins 4 & 5, and the main house look ready to be occupied. As do cabins 1, 2, and 3. Grant's Maple's II resort, known for its fine dining, cabin rentals and photographic signage was open all weekend. The Lake Lucerne Resort was also open and boasts the best view of the islands from any bar on the lake. The Arcade was also open for any combination of dining, drinking or bowling. Just down the road from the Arcade there is a building we have always called "The Silver Building". I'm told that in its day it was an opera house or something. After this Winter it's more of a roof over a pile of rubble. The water is currently too cold to entertain the idea of swimming, which is fine. There will be plenty of time for swimming in the next few months. Trillium are everywhere and the golf course is open. The golf course being open would be more important to us if we actually played golf, but there you are. It was 70s weekend on WRLO. On Friday, we got some very fine strawberries from Schaefer's, and the future Mrs Nemo and I paddleboated the North end of the lake, eating berries and blasting songs from over 10 years ago on a cheap radio. Despite hearing "Billy Don't Be a Hero" three times in less than three hours, I can't recall having a better time ever. The best time ever was made better when the water went in without any issues. Not at all like last year's cracked pipes disaster.

-Nemo also told Billy to keep his head lo-o-ow
