Return to knottlane

We dropped anchor about 750 feet from the east shore across from Swamp Creek.  The drop off there resembles a cliff wall and we wanted to scale it.  The sky was a little overcast but we assured the support people in the dive boat that the heavy stuff was "hours" away.  We should have said "minutes" away.
We followed the anchor rope down to the bottom.
5 minutes and 67 feet later we found the bottom.  It was cold (45 F) and covered with a fine silt.  Taking a compass reading, we headed east to the cliffs.  It was at this time that the rain and thunder started on the surface.  At 67 feet we didn't hear a thing.
Note to all divers:  If you use a dive flag that uses a styrofoam like float don't pull it under more than 20 feet of water.  It will lose buoyancy as the foam is crushed.  We lugged ours along the bottom for 20 minutes till the water was shallow enough to allow it to float.
At about 45 feet near the base of the cliffs we found a sleeping sucker fish, ugliest of all fish in the lake.  I thought it was dead until my dive buddy touched it and it's eyes opened.  It allowed him to "pet" it then we moved on.  It was at this point that I ran out of film.  The cliffs were everything I was told they were.  They were all rock and boulders that ran from 45 feet to 5 feet with an incline of about 60 to 75 degrees.  We surfaced about 740 feet from the boat  and found that the weather was turning unpleasent.  We swam along the surface as best we could.  The boat crew raised anchor and headed towards us.  100 feet from shore we rendezvoused, quickly got aboard and sped home in a driving rain.  The next time we do this dive we'll have more film and less weather!
