Abnormally Normal

December 9th through 15th, 2014

Lake Lucerne
The weather has been normal this week. If you have been following along at home, any normal Winter weather during the last two years is quite abnormal and this return to the mean is strangely unsettling. It feels like Winter may be just playing with us and, if we let our guard down, will put forth a front that will reach into the ground and freeze a septic line or two. It's happened before, but for now, yay.
Lake Lucerne
Last week started out with literal fog and ended with a bit of figurative fog. The former was caused by a low front and normal temperatures. The latter was produced by trying 5 of the 6 little recipes that came with the new bottle of Crown Royal Apple. There might have been beer, too.

In between the fogs, there were days with sun and very light wind. The conditions had us pushing the drone up higher than ever. Lake Metonga appears to still be frozen over.

With the small amount of snow that ended the week's early fog, Lake Lucerne had become a blank canvas. Mrs Nemo used boots and the drone's camera to make me a new avatar. Thanks!

Not satisfied with our Lake Metonga drone pictures from high above Lake Lucerne, we packed the flying beastie up and headed to a location somewhat closer to the area's second best lake.

The creek running out of Lake Metonga is still running.

There was a small fishing town (upper left), snowmobile tracks, and a really big, friendly dog.
Lake Lucerne
If you follow the drunken track on the left to the shore, it comes from/to the Metonga Beachside resort. It's for sale, but it'd be more fun to get the little orange cabins on Lucerne if you had that kind of money.
Lake Lucerne
The warmer weather has not been kind to the snow. The lake currently has none. Lawns around the lake are starting to peek through. Snowmobilers are not happy. There are a few dustings predicted after the weekend, but we really need a good six to 9 inches to fully re-Christmas-ize the area. The Crandon light shows are currently up. We'll get some pictures posted next week.

-Nemo hopes the de-Christmas-izing fog clears soon.
