The End (of 2013)

December 24th through 30th, 2013

The first half of Winter is essentially over. It's been a cold one. Usually, there's a fuzzy patch of weather as Winter and Fall battle for an early start or a late stay. Not this year. My guess is that a stray shot at the start of deer season plugged Fall and that was that. It's been a cold one. The condition of Knott Lane is a reflection of the year so far. There's ice under the packed snow cover. Surprisingly, traction is not so bad. New blades on the auger makes for a 30 second ice hole, huzzah! Eleven inches of very solid ice is supporting 6.5 inches of somewhat dry snow. Sure, it's been a cold one but it's almost half way over and the days are a gettin' longer. The lake has become a canvas for snowmobiles to lay down strokes of packed snow. It looks a little like a drunken zen garden with snow instead of sand. The 23rd annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War is less than 4 weeks away. The owner of Uncle Sam's Fireworks, just off Lineville Road outside of Green Bay (Go Pack!), have become our first sponsors with a few free goggles for eye protection and free party poppers for something else. Fort construction should start sooner rather than later.

-Nemo warming up with a long tall glass with wine up to yar
