Men with Hats

December 17th through 23rd, 2013

Lake Lucerne
It was cloudy, cold and a little snowy this week, but by the end of the week, the days were getting longer!
Lake Lucerne
The significant amount of snow the lake was supposed to get turned out to be a moderate amount. The cumulative effect of these tiny snows are adding up. There is about 8 inches on the lake, and some drifts on the shore are almost 2 feet deep.
Lake Lucerne
We've entered that time of year when everything outdoors has a hat. Mail boxes,

deck rails,
Lake Lucerne
grills,
Lake Lucerne
tables, stumps and benches all seem to be refugees of a white fez-o-rama.
Lake Lucerne
Some of the lake fez was pulled back and a hole was drilled to check the ice quality and thickness.
Lake Lucerne
That's quality ice.
Lake Lucerne
Ten inches of quality ice for those that require more quantified descriptions.

Argonne, about 6 miles North of Crandon, has a little bar/restaurant called Main Street Ed's. The owner is the guy that owned Copper Country seven years ago. Some friends told us about Ed's and since Copper Country was a pretty good place to eat we gave it a look see.

The deep fried portobella mushrooms are wonderful. The "U" shaped bar is comfortable and wasn't very crowded. Former Green Bay Packers William Henderson and Gilbert Brown were there, too.
Lake Lucerne
Mr. Henderson was fantastic with the kids and Mr. Brown demonstrated to Mrs. Nemo the proper way to hold a "Glibert Burger".

We have officially crossed into Winter, through it feels like we've made that crossing months ago. Ice fishing shacks have sprouted up on Silver Lake in Laona and more than a few tip-ups have been spotted on Lake Lucerne. When the wind dies down, it gets very quiet outside until the snowmobiles zoom around. Glibert Brown claimed to have seen sasquash on his way to Argonne.
